Many of us in towns and cities want to live in vibrant neighbourhoods, where we can easily get to work, and access shops and services. We want to feel safe and comfortable moving around, in ways that are good for our health and take care of the planet.

The Innovating Streets for People pilot fund supports projects that transition streets to be safer and more liveable by building sector capability in ‘tactical urbanism’.

The design is for a tactical urban approach to create a low-traffic neighbourhood that reallocates more street space for people to connect with each other. The project was designed in collaboration with traffic engineer consultants who focused the new vehicle movement design.

By dead-ending a number of streets spaces for three separate pocket parks was created which were designed, along with the local community, into spaces for connection, rest and play.
